Although voice over internet protocol, or VOIP, has been around for years, more businesses in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties are replacing their traditional landline telephone systems with a VOIP phone system.
A VOIP phone system allows you to use an ordinary phone but connects through the internet, rather than into a wall jack. VOIP phone systems employ a box, much like digital television, that connects to your phone and the internet. Your voice is digitized and routed through the internet.
VOIP phone systems also can be upgraded with many features such as conference calling, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and voicemail. If you prefer, you can have a dedicated VOIP phone, or you can use your computer microphone, speaker or headset.
In order to transmit without noticeable delays, broadband internet capability, such as DSL or cable, is required. A VOIP phone system can even be extended to employees'laptop computers. Calls can be made from anywhere, just like a cell phone, but at a fraction of the cost.
